Call for papers

Submission of abstracts is now closed and the preliminary conference program is being prepared.

Authors are kindly invited to present papers related to the following technical areas:

  • 3D & 4D body and 3D & 4D face scanning methods, systems and technologies
  • 3D body processing methods and technologies
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence for 3D body scanning and processing
  • 3D body modeling, 3D body visualization, 3D body printing methods and technologies
  • Active 3D body scanning technologies (laser scanning, white-light scanning, RGB-D)
  • Passive body scanning methods (stereo photogrammetry, visual-hull)
  • Portable and hand-held human body scanning and measurement devices
  • Full body scanning systems for the apparel and fashion sector
  • Applications in medical sciences (plastic surgery, orthotics, prosthetics, forensics, etc.)
  • Foot scanning, custom footwear and orthopedics
  • Digital anthropometry, anthropometric studies, ergonomics
  • Body measurement and sizing campaigns, fitting mannequins
  • Biometrics and applications in security
  • Applications in sport, health and fitness
  • Human body and face modeling, animation and simulation
  • Applications in virtual life, games and entertainment
  • 3D body scanning for arts, sculpture and 3D printing

Authors wishing to present their works (personally or virtually) at the conference are invited to submit their extended abstract(s) to the conference office. Extended abstract should consists of 250-500 words and images.

The abstracts should be sent by e-mail to the conference office until 31 May 2020 20 June 2020.

Important note

It is expected that one of the authors presents the paper (personally or virtually) at the conference. Reduced registration fees are available for speakers/presenters: registration.

Please plan to attend the whole conference as changes in the program (e.g. switching of technical sessions) are possible until few days before the conference.

COVID-19

We understand there are concerns and questions around the novel corona virus (COVID-19) in relation to the 3DBODY.TECH Conference & Expo and we would like to reassure you that the health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, and staff are our priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and following the guidance of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

3DBODY.TECH Conference & Expo will take place in Lugano Switzerland, on 21-22 October 2020. In order to cope with the particular situation caused by the novel corona virus, 3DBODY.TECH 2020 will be held as hybrid event, with real conference and exhibition taking place onsite in Lugano, and with added virtual content, online streaming and virtual online engagement. Attendees, speakers, exhibitors will be able to participate in person or online/remotely.

We believe attendees, speakers, exhibitors should be given maximal freedom to choose when and how to participate at 3DBODY.TECH 2020. We will accept requests for changes (upgrades, downgrades, virtual/onsite) until the latest possible date and without additional administrative fees. We will be also very flexible on proposals for presentations, speeches and on registrations of exhibitors.

As the date draws closer, we will be working with the venue, our contractors and regulators to assess risks and to implement protocols for the safety and well-being of all participants at the 3DBODY.TECH Conference & Expo. Please continue to check our website 3dbody.tech for updates as they develop. We look forward to a safe and successful event in October.

In case of an inevitable postponement or cancellation of the 3DBODY.TECH Conference & Expo, the following two options will be given to registered attendees and confirmed exhibitors and sponsors:
(1) Transfer of the registration(s) and/or agreement(s) to the postponed or next year's event.
(2) Refund of all paid fees by bank transfer (less 6% credit card charge, for payments made by credit card).

Acceptance process, conference proceedings, ISBN, DOIs

The submitted extended abstracts will be reviewed and evaluated for acceptance. Authors of accepted abstracts should submit full papers following the given guidelines.

The submitted papers will be published as conference proceedings with ISBN number, available in digital form (on USB flash drive and/or FTP download).
DOI (digital object identification) numbers will be assigned to the single published papers.
The abstracts and the papers will be available online at the website www.3dbody.tech/cap.

The works presented at the conference will be differentiated into three groups: accepted papers (upon review of the submitted extended abstracts), invited speaker presentations (with or without papers), technical presentations (mainly from exhibitors, eventually without papers).

A limited number of selected papers may be chosen for an additional academic volume. These papers will have to pass a peer review process by the scientific/technical committee before publication.

All the submitted papers have to be presented personally by one of the authors.

Guidelines for full paper/manuscript preparation and submission

All full papers/written submissions for inclusion in the proceedings of the conference must follow the guidelines provided by the template document:

Registration required

All accepted abstracts/papers/presentations have to be presented personally onsite or virtually/remotely online by one of the authors.
Reduced registration fees are available for speakers and presenting authors: registration.

Please plan to attend (onsite or virtually) the whole conference, as changes in the program are possible until few days before the conference.

Consent form

Presentations at the conference will be recorded and web streamed.
Presenters/speakers have therefore to submit a signed consent form.
The consent form will be provided later.

How to cite

Here below you can find an example how to cite the papers published in the proceedings of the conference (based on the IEEE citation style and with DOI).
Note: please always add/indicate the DOI number (assigned to all published papers) as full link.

Guidelines for oral and virtual presentations

It is required that at least one of the authors presents the paper personally at the conference.
Note: we offer also the possibility to participate at 3DBODY.TECH 2020 in a remote mode, as virtual speaker/presenter.
Please plan to attend the whole 2-days conference as changes in the program are possible until few days before the conference.

Oral presentations

Oral presentation should be approx. 18 minutes long. This will allow additional 4 minutes for questions and discussion. Note: less or additional time may be available depending on the session.

Please ensure you arrive before the start of the session in which you are presenting and introduce yourself to the chair of the session. Note: chairmen will be listed in the final program.

No specific template is defined for the presentations. Presenters can freely design and setup them according to his/her style.

Windows Laptops with MS Powerpoint will be available in the conference rooms. Please bring backups of your presentation on USB flash drive. We suggest however the authors to bring and use their own laptop to avoid compatibility problems (e.g. different versions of Powerpoint, linked files, videos, etc.).

LCD projectors in the conference rooms have HDMI connection and 16:9 display mode.

Please note that electricity in Switzerland operates on 220-240 Volts AC 50HZ and that Swiss 3-poles electric plugs are different from European-style plugs. Please bring with you the necessary adapters.

Important note for Apple/MAC Laptops and/or Tablets: please bring the necessary adapters in order to connect your device with projectors featuring HDMI plug.

Virtual presentations

Virtual presentation should consist of a pre-recorded video presentation of approx. 18 minutes long. This will allow additional 4 minutes for questions and discussion on a remote/online conference system. Note: less or additional time may be available depending on the session.

Virtual presentations should be prepared as video files (MP4, AVI, MOV, MPEG) and sent by e-mail to the conference office at least 3 weeks before the conference. No specific template is defined for the virtual video presentations. Presenters can freely design and setup it according to his/her style.

Note: MS PowerPoint allows to record video and/or audio narration running through a presentation. Please ensure you log-in remotely to the online conference system before the start of the session in which you are presenting and introduce yourself to the chair of the session. Note: chairmen will be listed in the final program.
